Volunteer Activity Workers

Supporting people in West of Glasgow and Southside.

Fred Martin, Southside, North West Glasgow, Homelife and Glasgow East End Projects are looking for volunteer activity workers for their day services.  The volunteers are needed to provide support to the staff in activities such as music, movement to music, arts and crafts, drama and sports. The purpose of this role would be to provide a range of interesting and entertaining activities, giving choice and variety each day.

The main tasks would be - If supporting staff:

Interaction with staff as well as taking direction from staff has to how best to support the people that are taking part in the activities.  Fully participating with the people supported by the project in the chosen activity.  Verbally reporting to staff how the session/activity went and any issues that may arise.

If running a group:

Being fully conversant with the activity requirments and people supported by the project who can and do chose to take part.  Be willing and able to provide direction and instruction from staff to enable them to support you and the people supported by project.  Report to staff how session/activity went and any issues that may arise.

The skills required would be that the volunteer would be enthusiastic, flexible, patience, good communicator, driver(though not essential), ability to play an instrument, interested or qualified in art, art therapy, drama, aromatherapy massage, outdoor pursuits such as hill walking/cycling, sporting pursuits.  Experience with learning difficulties would be an advantage as would experience of Hearing or sight impairments.

Where and when?  Mon-Fri 9.30 – 3.00pm with the view to widening provisions to evening and weekends.

Activities are expected to run for 2 hour slots am and pm.  So the commitment required would be for 2hours per week, same day each week if running the group.
