Volunteer befriender who enjoys different activities
Quarriers Cumbernauld Project provides a range of support services for adults and children with learning or physical Disabilities and acquired brain injuries in the North Lanarkshire area. Predominately the Cumbernauld, Kilsyth, Moodiesburn and Chryston areas. A volunteer is needed to engage, support and build up a friendship with A in the activities he enjoys doing, possibly in his home and local community.
A is a 51 year old man with a learning disability who lives in his own home and looking to expand his social network and participate in community activities. We are looking for a volunteer to engage, support and build up a friendship with A in the activities he enjoys doing, possibly in his home and local community. The purpose of this role would be to give A the opportunity to meet new people, a chance for A to form other supports in his local community, for A to be able to participate in the activities he has an interest in. The main tasks would be accompany and provide support to A in the activities he enjoys (eating out, playing pool, playing darts, horse racing, football).
Skills and atttitudes required would to be patient, good empathy skills, a good sense of humor, friendly, caring and enthusiastic. This opportunity would happen at A's house and surrounding area. Volunteer (if suited) would have to commit to volunteering for a 12 month period. Ideally this would happen once a week, for between 2 and 4 hours depending on what A would like to do. Times negotiable but generally any time between 10am and 9pm any day.
Training and support provided would include:
Support provided from existing staff, team leader and manager for volunteer. Expectation that volunteer would work alongside Quarriers staff for a period of time to get to know A. Volunteer induction and review procedures followed.
Possible relevant mandatory course to be completed.

- Emergency First Aid
- Fire safety Awareness
- Basic food Hygiene (work book)
- Safer Handling
- Administration of Medication
- SCIP
- Epilepsy and Rescue medication
Other training courses may be available. Selection procedure will be application form, interview wtih project manager, PVG and reference checks.
