Parklands - Quarriers Village

Parklands is a specialized residential home providing support to eight men who have severe intractable Epilepsy. We are based in Quarriers Village. Each man is supported live as independently as possible. We aim to maximize their choices and promote access to opportunities within the community by utilizing their strengths and using person centred approaches.

We need four volunteers to provide 1:1 social support to one of four individuals we support. Each volunteer will be carefully matched with individuals depending on interests and on who the individual chooses.

Some of the activities the people we support enjoy taking part in are:-

  • Outings to play darts and pool/snooker
  • Outings around the Glasgow area
  • Reminiscing
  • Short walks
  • Model making
  • Arts and crafts
  • Basic literacy
  • Required Skills/Knowledge/Experience:
  • Knowledge of epilepsy - desirable but not essential.
  • Willing to attend relevant training.
  • Good listening skills.

When & Where:

Initially within Quarriers Village.
Outings into the wider community once training and information are given.

We are looking for someone who is able to make a weekly commitment, preferably, and who is over 18 years.

Training & Support Provided:

Initial shadowing.
Induction to support plans and risk assessments.
Training in epilepsy and medication.

Own transport desirable but not essential.

Selection Procedure:
Application form, informal meeting, references and police checks.

Expenses:

Allowances for light meals and transport costs.
