Quarriers Supported Housing, South Ayrshire

Quarriers South Ayrshire Supported Housing Project, provides support to 16 - 25 year olds, most of whom are care leavers. Housing support in 6 flats with a 24 hour staff presence and outreach to young people in temporary furnished and mainstream accommodation across South Ayrshire.

The volunteer DIY role will assist with general maintenance, including decorating and minor repairs, in the homes of people supported by the Outreach Service. Partially about educating people and helping them to develop skills and confidence.

The purpose of the role will be to assist young people to maintain their tenancies, particularly where someone is moving into a new tenancy which is in need of decoration. This is particularly relevant where young people have limited resources and a lack of family support. Hopefully the young people will gain confidence to carry out tasks independently.

The main tasks will be:

  • painting and decorating the tenancy
  • minor repairs around flats

Required skills:

  • painting and decorating skills
  • general household skills
  • life experience
  • The volunteer would need to be happy to travel where needed across South Ayrhire.
  • The commitment required is flexible and can be discussed.

Induction training will be provided, along with supervision and support from Project Workers.

Application is through: application form, informal interview, disclosure check and references.

All out of pocket expenses will be provided e.g. travel and any materials required for repairs/decor etc.
