Support Worker/Befriender

Supporting people in Glasgow North West.

A volunteer is needed for Glasgow North West housing Support Services - Kinellan Road, Windsor Street, Wilton Street and Maryhill Road Projects.  Kinellan Road is based in Bearsden with 3 adults with learning disabilities living there.  Windsor Street is in Maryhill with 3 adults with physical and learning disabilities.  Maryhill Road and Wilton Street are both single services with a female with learning difficulties living there.  All people are supported 24 hours a day with all aspects of their care, they all lead busy lives and like to get out and about on different activities.

Main tasks would include 2nd support for swimming, and also initially a 2nd person for all kinds of social activities and getting to know the person.  Aiming to them eventually being able to go out on their own.

This volunteer would need to be reliable and turn up, and give plenty of notice if unable to.  Be able to get to know all the people who are supported, their families, staff and become part of a team.

The volunteer should have good communications skills, patience, reliable, friendly, someone who enjoys social activities and spending time with people.  There are no actual experience needed, just someone who wants to do this, meet new people and build up friendships.

The commitment should be to be available for 2-3 hours once a week for each person, even if just volunteering for one person.
