Volunteer to Develop Easy Read Documents
Quarriers Head Office, Quarriers Village
The purpose of the role is to develop Easy Read documents within Quarriers, producing accessible information for staff and people Quarriers support
Main Tasks:
To work with Quarriers Good Information Group to assist in the development of guidance notes on producing accessible information for all staff.
To work on documents which have been identified by the Good Information Group, for example, Quarriers standards, policies and other internal documents, and produce an accessible, Easy Read version. This may include using Photosymbols3 software.
Skills Needed for the Role:
- Ability to read detailed documents and summarise concisely for a variety of audiences.
- Ability to use software package containing photographs to enhance accessibility.
- Experience of working with accessible information or Easyread would be an advantage.
The task could be undertaken at any location, including the volunteer’s own home. To be able to meet with members of the Good Information Group as well as Quarriers Discovery Group at Head Office would be an advantage as would being able to meet members of the Glasgow Good Information Group.
Members of the Good Information Group will allocate tasks and provide support for the volunteer in order to access software and support the development of Easy Read documents. Induction to Quarriers will also be provided. The volunteer will have opportunities to meet with Quarriers Discovery Group (The Discovery Group represents the views and opinions of individuals who use Quarriers Disability Services across Scotland). The volunteer will also be able to link in with Glasgow’s Good Information Group, which is a user-led promoting accessible information for people with a Learning Disability.
The hours are flexible and are task driven rather than a set amount of hours per week.
It would be helpful if the volunteer could travel into Quarriers Head Office at Quarriers Village, therefore own transport would be an advantage and travel expenses will be paid.
The recruitment process includes an application form, meeting with manager, reference checks and a disclosure check.
