Quarriers appoint new Service Director

Leading social care charity, Quarriers, has appointed David Williams as service director for central region due to the continued growth and expansion of the charity’s services across central Scotland.

David, previously assistant director for NCH Scotland, has a Certificate of Qualification in Social Work from Stirling University and has worked as a social worker and senior social worker in Glasgow since 1988. In 1997 David moved to NCH Scotland as service manager for Moray.

Moray-based David is looking forward to contributing to the development of Quarriers’ service provision for children, young people and adults: “I’ve been aware of Quarriers’ existence for a number of years as a social care organisation and was attracted to it by the developing regional and generic structure of care provision which has come on the back of its significant growth over the past four to five years. I see it as a great opportunity to plan and develop seamless services for people in need of support with partner organisations.

He continued: “I’ve also been impressed by the way Quarriers has handled difficult issues – demonstrating an honesty and commitment to address contentious areas, which for me lends itself well to actively tackling the poverty and inequality of opportunity, which the organisation sets out to do.”

David has responsibility for the overall management responsibilities for all the social care services, run by Quarriers, in the central region, covering Inverclyde, Renfrewshire, Lanarkshire, West Dumbarton and Argyll and Bute. As a member of the organisation executive, he will also contribute to the corporate development and management of the agency.

Quarriers provides support and care for adults and children with a physical or learning disability, for children and families facing poverty, family breakdown, exclusion and disadvantage and for young people with social, emotional or behavioural difficulties, or who are homeless. Quarriers also offers support to carers of all ages who need respite, advice or just a friend to listen, it also has the only residential epilepsy assessment centre in Scotland.

Quarriers has grown considerably since it was founded by William Quarrier during the 1870s, expanding to meet the needs of children, adults and families all over Scotland – and beyond. Staff numbers are now in excess of 1600 and the charity has an expected turnover of £35 million for 2005.
