Quarriers needs you to care

Leading Scottish care charity, Quarriers will be running a door to door fundraising campaign to help raise money for some of the most disadvantaged people in the country.

Quarriers provides support and care for adults and children with a physical or learning disability, for children and families facing poverty, family breakdown, exclusion and disadvantage and for young people with social, emotional or behavioural difficulties, or who are homeless. Quarriers also offers support to carers of all ages who need respite, advice or just a friend to listen, it also has the only residential epilepsy assessment centre in Scotland and provides support to people with epilepsy in the community through its fieldwork services.

Morag Fleming, head of individual giving at Quarriers, said: "Door to door fundraising has proven to be a successful way of informing people about the organisation as well as helping to raise money. I'd ask locals to please spare some time to listen to what our representatives have to say and help support our valuable work in Scottish communities."

All the door to door representatives are required to carry identification and are fully trained and licensed to do their job. This is a safe way to make a donation to charity. All representatives are members of the Professional Fundraising Regulatory Association (PFRA) a voluntary self-regulatory body for organisations involved in fundraising by direct debit on the street and door-to-door. Led by charities in partnership with Professional Fundraising Organisations (PFOs), the PFRA promotes and enforces a code of conduct and allocates sites for fundraising on an equitable basis. 690,000 donors signed up to PFRA member charities in 2002, pledging an estimated total of £240 million to good causes over the next five years.

Quarriers has grown considerably since it was founded by William Quarrier during the 1870s, expanding to meet the needs of children, adults and families all over Scotland - and beyond. Staff numbers are now in excess of 1800 and the organisation supports around 18 000 individuals.
