Scotland’s leading care charity, Quarriers, which ranks support for people with epilepsy as one of its core services, is hosting two free epilepsy awareness training sessions for local businesses in Glasgow and Renfrewshire as part of Epilepsy Awareness Week (20th – 27th May 2007).
The training aims for businesses to attain a better knowledge and understanding to support people who have epilepsy, to gain the confidence to manage epileptic seizures and the recovery period and to learn how to manage seizures appropriately. All who are present will also get a certificate of attendance.
The training sessions will be held from 9.30am – 12.30pm on Monday 21st May at The Gateway, Quarriers Village Bridge of Weir and on Wednesday 23rd May at The Adelphi Centre, 12 Commercial Road, Glasgow.
Elaine Cowan, Quarriers Staff Development Officer, said: “Despite epilepsy’s low profile, 1 in 131 people have epilepsy experiencing many different types of epileptic seizures. The purpose is primarily to raise awareness but also to develop more positive attitudes toward people with epilepsy.”
She continues: “Quarriers’ Epilepsy Awareness Training will tackle misconceptions of staff and employees, aiming to reduce the stigma associated with epilepsy in the workplace. Businesses will be asked about their perceptions of epilepsy, then informed of the realities of living with the condition as well as first aid techniques they could use to assist someone having a seizure.”
If you would like to attend a training session, please contact the training admin team Quarriers on T: 01505 616 085.
