A member of staff from leading Scottish social care charity, Quarriers, is set to embark on a fundraising challenge of a lifetime as she prepares to trek the wondrous depths of the Grand Canyon, to furnish the newly extended sitting room at Quarriers Countryview project, Bridge of Weir.
Mo Lyle, a team leader at Countryview, which provides a regular respite service to families in the area who are caring for a child or young person with a learning disability, is due to take up the ultimate trekking challenge from the 9th-18th October. Since May, Mo has raised nearly £4,200 by undertaking a range of fundraising and sponsorship activities from packing bags at Marks and Spencers to a holding a race night, held at a local bowling club, and is still actively fundraising.
Mo explains, “It’s been a real challenge so far, and it’s called a challenge for a reason - part of the challenge is to raise the money and to raise the profile of the charity and it’s also an excellent way to experience the Grand Canyon”.
She continues, “With the support of my family, friends and colleagues I hope to make a real difference for the children and young people at Countryview by adding equipment such as a 42 inch plasma television and outside play equipment.”
Sandra Semple, project manager at Countryview, said: “We are all very proud of what Mo is about to undertake and from her dedication we can provide additional specialised outdoor play equipment for the people we support, meeting their needs in the best possible way.”
The Grand Canyon Experience is a nine day trek, reaching heights of over 7000ft, descending into one of the most beautiful landscapes in the world; into the heart of the Grand Canyon at Havasu Canyon. Fundraisers will trek and explore the special Havasupai Reservation, where many Indians sill live to this day, and enjoy the evenings at a permanent camp. This Challenge will take trekkers to a very spiritual place and leave them with a great sense of accomplishment as they trek this greatest natural wonder.
If you or someone you know would like to sponsor Mo, or even get involved in a Quarriers fundraising trek, for further information please contact Bryan McCall on t: 01505 610 017 or email events@quarriers.org.uk.
