International Work

Why are Quarriers involved in international work?

We have a large amount of experience and knowledge to offer overseas partner organisations. Through sharing this, we can help improve good practice and service provision overseas.

Through our UK connections, we can also help access funding for overseas projects. Particularly in poorer countries, where Non Government Organisations (NGOs) have fewer resources to tap locally, this is of real importance to ensure services are available where they are needed most.

What do we do?

We don't have offices overseas, but instead work directly with indigenous grass-roots NGOs that already have the required local knowledge and connections. Once a partnership is established, we work together with these organisations to develop ideas, expertise, organisational infrastructure and funding to start new projects aimed at the most disadvantaged population.

We currently have two partners, the Taganka Children's Fund in Moscow, Russia, and Saathi in Kathmandu, Nepal.

By clicking on a link below you will find more information on the work of these projects.

We are also working to develop other partnerships in Eastern Europe and South Asia.

Quarriers' role overseas focuses on training on issues such as fundraising, organisational management, monitoring and evaluation, good practice (e.g. child protection, confidentiality etc.) and service provision. The idea is to build the skills of partner organisations so that they may better meet local needs - building models of service delivery that have not yet been developed (e.g. Family Support) and providing training to ensure our partners are equipped to deliver such models.

Quarriers helps to build a sustainable development model overseas in a way that empowers local organisations. Such sharing of expertise and know how is crucial in strengthening local charities working developing countries in a sustainable way.
