The Break-a-way Project is registered with the Care Commission as a Fostering Agency and provides family-based short breaks for disabled children and young people throughout Dumfries and Galloway.
Children live at home with their family and most have learning disabilities/difficulties, in addition some also have physical disabilities, autism, communication need, sensory problems or have complex medical needs.
Children are carefully matched to Foster Carers approved to provide short breaks. A break can be anything from an overnight to a weekend a month and a week in the summer holidays.
Children have the opportunity to make new friends and have different experiences while parents have a break from caring, safe in the knowledge that their child is being well looked after within a safe environment.
