The Break-a-way Project provides family-based short breaks for disabled children and young people throughout Dumfries and Galloway. Quarriers is registered with the Care Commission as a Fostering Agency.
The project supports children and young people with significant disabilities. The majority have learning disabilities/difficulties and in addition, some children/young people also have physical disabilities, autism, communication need, sensory problems or have complex medical needs.
Children are carefully matched to registered Foster Carers approved to provide short breaks. A break can be anything from a few hours a day to a weekend a month and a week in the summer holidays. The average is 29 overnights a year. Children have the opportunity to make new friends and have different experiences while parents have a break from caring, safe in the knowledge that their child is being well looked after within a safe environment.
