Since 1999 Break-a-way has provided family based short breaks to significantly disabled children and young people aged from birth to 18 years throughout Dumfries and Galloway.
Foster Carers, approved as short break carers, provide support in their own home, offering planned, regular breaks. A short break can be anything from an overnight, a weekend to a full week.
Since the project started we have increasingly become aware of how marginalised the fathers of disabled children appear to be. Some fathers expressed an interest in coming together and we were successful in securing funding to develop a Fathers Group.
