Plans to remove mobility component of DLA abandoned

The UK Government has today abandoned plans to remove the mobility component of Disability Living Allowance (DLA) for people in residential care.

The UK Government had planned to scrap the payments to those living in residential care but has admitted that there was insufficient evidence to support their arguments that there was a funding overlap and that claimants were getting money from two sources for the same purpose.

Quarriers have been lobbying hard on this issue since January 2011, together with many other organisations, and this is an excellent outcome.

There are, of course, still major challenges ahead as DLA is abolished, and we will continue to lobby hard with, and on behalf of, the people we support, to ensure that the introduction of the new Personal Independence Payment (PIP) does not disadvantage those who need it.
