Homelife Ayr resident gets to meet Scottish Secretary

A person supported by Quarriers’s Homelife project in Ayr met with Michael Moore MP, the Secretary of State for Scotland, in London to talk about the impact the UK coalition government’s austerity programme is having on people with disabilities.

Caroline Gray travelled south in her role as the secretary of the Learning Disability Alliance Scotland (LDAS). She was joined by fellow LDAS members David Tawse and Sally Ann Elfverson for the meeting at the Scotland Office on Wednesday 18 January.

Caroline told Mr Moore the Westminster government needed to listen more to people with disabilities who were worried about proposed changes to the Disability Living Allowance (DLA).

Mr Moore agreed to raise her concerns with Iain Duncan Smith MP, the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions. He said he would also raise her concerns with the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities.
Caroline, Sally and David were treated to a tour of the Scotland Office in Dover House and had their picture taken with Mr Moore on the balcony overlooking Horse Guards Parade.
