Leonardo programme a success for young homeless people

Quarriers Children and Young People's Inclusion team successfully completed the first part of Leonardo work placements in Holland. Leonardro is an EU exchange programme for young people with various backgrounds looking to learn new skills to equip them to enter the labour market.

The Inclusion team are currently undergoing the preparation sessions for the next group of young people to go to Holland on 20 February.

10 young people  have been selected who are currently supported by Quarriers or have been in the past. We're currently into the sixth week of preparation sessions and all the young people are committed and enthusiastic about the prospect of working abroad.

One young man who took part in the last exchange programme was a very shy, socially isolated young man, and being in Holland certainly made a huge impact on his confidence levels. He said at the time: “I’m a bit more confident and outgoing, although I’m still not as outgoing as I could be. I think I’ve gained some friends and hopefully I’ll keep in touch with the people I’ve met”. He added, “I live in a really small town and being in Holland has shown me that I can live anywhere. I might even think about Glasgow.”
