Barlanark Family Support Service
The Barlanark Family Support Service has been set up to offer support to children living in the east end of Glasgow who have been affected by their parents substance misuse. The aim of the service is to reduce the affects of problematic parental substance misuse by supporting children to build resilience and self confidence through individual one to one support and groupwork. The service is funded through Glasgow East Community Partnership Planning.
The service also has a befriending element which provides support to children and young people from 5 -13 years who are experiencing difficulties because of their parents alcohol or drug use. The befriending initiative recruits and trains adult volunteers. These volunteers meet with the child or young person to support them with activities or interests in their own community. The initiative has been funded through Lloyds TSB and the NHS.
