Rivendell
Rivendell is a residential service for children and young people with complex needs specialising in challenging behaviour.
The service has six bedrooms which are individualised to the young person’s personal taste as much as possible. This helps to create feelings of identity and familiarity.
Public rooms include a large dining room, a living/playroom and a sensory room where we provide a variety of facilities, including access to both calming and stimulating activities.
A range of musical instruments is available to help young people enjoy music therapy. Provided by a fully qualified therapist, this therapy can help to support their emotional needs.
We have a large garden with outside play equipment, which is extremely valuable for this group of lively children. Dedicated transport allows us to make good use of local amenities, such as swimming and drama clubs.
Staff receive a high level of training in a number of areas and most have joint qualifications or are working towards SVQ 3 and HNC. A programme is in place to ensure their continuous development.
Staff also develop positive ways to support young people whose behaviour may be challenging.
We ensure the service complies with the National Care Standards and the principles of choice, safety, equality, diversity, privacy, dignity and realising potential. Staff are also trained in calm techniques.
The service we provide here at Rivendell is based on the following principles:
- A person-centred approach that values individuality and choice
- A safe and supportive home environment where young people can thrive and develop in their full potential
- Partnership with parents to encourage continuity of relationships for young people, where possible
- Relationships with key agencies to promote a joined-up service for young people
- Helping young people access community resources and achieve inclusive lives
- Promoting self-care skills and providing high quality personal and behavioural support to achieve the highest level of independence possible
- Valuing and ensuring the young person’s right to dignity and privacy
- Support to plan for moving from childrens to adults services
If your child is under 16 years of age and you think we could help you please get in touch. You can also speak to your local social work department who could assess your child and make a referral if appropriate. The project manager can give you or your Social Worker further information about referrals.
Please note all bedrooms are upstairs and there is no lift.
