Meet the team that manages Quarriers

Quarriers Executive Directors are responsible for managing a large and exceptionally gifted social care team.  This involves implementing a host of user-focused policies, coordinating teams of project workers and support staff and balancing the books.

Paul Moore - Chief Executive Officer

PaulMoore.jpgPaul Moore joined Quarriers in May 2010 as Chief Executive Officer.  Paul joins us from Action for Children where he was Strategic Director for the north of England for four years.

Paul has a wealth of experience working with young people and has held previous senior positions at Cumbria Council as Head of Children’s Services and Group Manager with Liverpool City Council.

During his time at Liverpool he played a role in Liverpool’s bid for City of Culture status acting as the social services advisor.  He's worked in a variety of roles over the years in the area of children and young people, working in local government for 29 years before moving to the voluntary sector four years ago.

Gerry Wells - Service Director for Central Scotland

GerryWells.jpg Gerry joined Quarriers as a Service Manager in January 2004.

He became a Service Director in May 2009.  He carries responsibility for services in Quarriers Central Region and Lead Director responsibility for Quarriers Adult Disability  and Epilepsy services.  After qualifying as a social worker Gerry worked in local authorities in the West of Scotland for 26 years.  Starting as a generic social worker in area team social work, Gerry’s career immersed him in local authority statutory services, subsequently focusing on community care, and later being a commissioner of services for adults with learning disabilities.

Helen Hunter - Service Director for Glasgow and North

HelenHunter.jpgHelen Hunter joined Quarriers in July 2009 as Service Director Glasgow & North Region. Helen also has a lead role in the organisations work with Children and Families and Young Adults. Helen gained a social science degree and a social work qualification at Paisley and has worked with a variety of groups in the field of social care for over 25 years across both public and voluntary sector organisations. During Helen’s career, she has specialised in work with children, families and young adults.  Prior to coming to Quarriers, Helen was Assistant Director, West of Scotland, with CHILDREN 1ST

Niall MacPherson - Director for Finance and Corporate Services

Niall_MacPherson_2011.jpgNiall is a qualified Chartered Accountant and has held senior finance roles in retail and technology businesses in both the private and public sectors.

Prior to joining Quarriers in December 2010 he was Head of Finance at ITI Scotland Ltd, a Scottish Enterprise-funded project which commercialised world-class technology programmes in the energy, life sciences and digital communications sectors.

In 2005 Niall completed the Cranfield Business School General Management Programme.

Laurie Gardner - Director for External Relations

LaurieGardner.jpgLaurie Gardner came to Quarriers in April 2002 after nearly twenty years involved with fundraising for voluntary organisations and as a consultant.

Laurie has worked in Local Community, Overseas Development & Humanitarian Aid, Built Heritage, Environmental and now, Social Care sectors.

 

 

Karen Croan - Director of Human Resources

KarenCroan.jpgKaren Croan joined Quarriers as Director of Human Resources in June 2005.

Karen has worked in the care and health sector now for 15 years and is a Psychology Honours Graduate and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development.

 

 

Glynis Elgey - Service Director

GlynisElgey.jpgGlynis Elgey qualified as a nurse in 1973. She joined Quarriers in 1997 as a Project Manager to develop a short breaks service for children with disabilities, having worked in this field for many years.

Glynis was a Service Manager since 1999 initially in the Children, Families and Young People sector, and later also managed services for adults. Glynis was also Operational Manager introducing Quarriers in South West England.
