Who is this service for
REACH is a Glasgow-based service supporting pupils in primary and secondary schools who are affected by Emotionally Based School Non-Attendance (EBSNA).
REACH supports children and young people, between the age of 5-16. Children and young people referred to REACH will find attending school difficult for a range of different reasons or will be at risk of further disengaging from school. Reasons for this could include poor mental health, including anxiety about attending school, language and communication difficulties or other concerns identified by people who know you well.
Criteria for referral is that the child’s attendance should have fallen below 60% for at least two consecutive terms. Schools must also refer to the REACH service through the Joint Support Team.
What we do
- The REACH service will engage with the home to establish a clear understanding of the child’s needs and the barriers to their participation in learning.
- We will work intensively with the child and their family and will use a range of strategies to address the child’s needs and support their well-being, so that they can make positive choices about their learning pathway.
- We will link with the school to keep our partners informed of progress and work alongside school staff to facilitate positive outcomes for the child.
