The Awareness Day for Quarriers was devised after Scotland’s oldest football club, Queen’s Park (nicknamed The Spiders) and the family-owned independent pharmacy chain M & D Green, who sponsor the back of the club’s shirt, came together to work with the charity.

The Awareness Day will see the Queen’s Park players wearing warm-up T-shirts designed by Sophie Combe who is supported by Quarriers Let’s Talk Service at St John Bosco Primary. Sophie won the competition ran by Quarriers to design the T-shirt on the theme of kindness.

Sophie will also be The Spiders’ match mascot against Raith Rovers, and she will be cheered on by an estimated 100 guests from Quarriers who have been provided with match tickets due to the partnership between the club and M & D Green.

M & D Green Pharmacies have also kindly agreed to sponsor refreshments for all the children and their families.

The game against the Kirkcaldy team at The National Stadium will be used to support and promote the work of Quarriers. Quarriers helps people to live full lives through providing practical care and support for vulnerable children, adults and families, challenging poverty and creating opportunities for positive change.

Whether offering at-home care, working for young people in difficult situations, supporting those affected by epilepsy or helping children and families in need, Quarriers give people the chance to live full lives.

Louise Robertson, Associate Director of Funding and Marketing at Quarriers, said: “We are grateful to Queens Park and M&D Green for sponsoring this wonderful opportunity for the children and young people we work with.

“Together we organised a competition for all those we work with under 12 years of age to design a t-shirt with the theme kindness. We were delighted to receive more than 30 brilliant entries, huge shout out to everyone who entered.

“All those that entered the competition have also been gifted tickets to the game with their families, something they are very excited to be part of.”

M & D Green’s Campbell Thomson said: “As a forward-thinking company with strong core values we are always looking to assist in our local communities. Our partnership with Queen’s Park has seen a number of exciting initiatives in recent years and The Awareness Day for Quarriers is probably our biggest initiative so far.

“We are proud to support Quarriers and proud that our partnership with Queen’s Park is growing in such a positive way.”

Queen’s Park’s Head of Commercial Kieran Koszary said: “We believe in the strength of partnerships that go beyond football and business. It is really encouraging that M & D Green feel the same and we are looking forward to welcoming Quarriers to our game with Raith Rovers on Saturday.”
