Young Carers Action Day’s theme is Fair Futures For Young Carers. Being a young carer can be a barrier to learning, earning or being able to get on in life.

With the support of her parents, Quarriers Carer Support Service (Moray) and The Exchange, Chloe feels those barriers are being broken down.

If there is one thing she would like to see more of, it is:

“There should be more activities and information available to young carers. In my area in Moray, I don’t see many things advertised that would help my brother and me. My support worker at Quarriers has been good, she helped refer me onto other services and I’ve met other young carers through going to activities.”

Policy, practice and investment is needed to give young carers the additional support and flexibility they need to thrive.

There are an estimated 1 million young carers in the UK.

The Carers Trust is working to launch the first ever Covenant for Young Carers and Young Adult Carers. For more details, visit https://carers.org/campaigning-for-change/the-young-carers-covenant
