William Quarrier Scottish Epilepsy Centre scores highly in unannounced inspection.

The William Quarrier Scottish Epilepsy Centre has once again received a glowing report from Healthcare Improvement Scotland (HIS) following an unannounced inspection.

The state-of-the-art centre, which is one of the leading epilepsy facilities in Europe, received ‘Very Good’ ratings in all five categories of the inspection: Quality of Information, Quality of Care and Support, Quality of Environment, Quality of Staffing, and Quality of Management and leadership.

During the inspection, which took place on 23-24 May, HIS had particular praise for the centre’s environment and use of technology, and the positive, forward-thinking approach of the staff. The inspection also praised the centre’s monitoring system and its commitment to improving care and demonstrating best practice in the care and treatment of epilepsy.  The full report can be viewed here.

Health Improvement Scotland’s positive comments included:

“The centre has a very positive staff group who are committed and forward thinking.”

“The service had very good systems in place to make sure staff were recruited safely.”

“We spoke with eight members of staff who told us that working at the service was ‘the best job I have ever had, I enjoy coming to work’. Staff also said that a lot of training was available and that the management ‘always want to push you on and help develop you’.”

Gerard Gahagan, Head of Epilepsy Services, said “We are delighted that Health Improvement Scotland recognises the high quality of our service. This is underpinned by our continuous improvement culture and a foundation of true person-centred, safe and effective care. I would like to take the opportunity to recognise the efforts of the team in producing this culture and these results.”
