Quarriers apprentice shortlisted for 'Rising Star' award

Quarriers Digital Marketing Apprentice, Kiera McMillan, has been shortlisted in the rising star category in the 2nd annual QA Scotland Apprenticeship Awards.

Quarriers apprentice shortlisted for 'Rising Star' award

Kiera, 18, started with Quarriers in September 2023, straight from school, and has been working diligently on improving her digital marketing skillset in the External Relations team.

The apprenticeship, facilitated by QA, aims to offer young people the chance to kick start their career, discover their potential and master the skills that employers are seeking. ‘Earn while you learn’, all the while unlocking a world of possibilities.

The Digital Marketing Modern Apprenticeship combines high quality training and on-the-job experience to create skilled digital marketing professionals.

At the end of Kiera’s year of study and working, she will be awarded a SCQF Level 6 Diploma in Digital Marketing.

When asked about her decision to follow the apprenticeship route, Kiera said: “I always struggled in a classroom environment, I am more of a practical learner. The apprenticeship gave me the opportunity to have hands-on experience while also learning through the apprenticeship scheme.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time with Quarriers. I particularly enjoy being involved in the pre-planning of events, then documenting them through our digital channels.

“I have started creating short form video content to raise the awareness of the variety of Quarriers services. That has been really enjoyable. Being involved in creating content that shows the work that Quarriers does, to raise awareness and to help boost recruitment opportunities has been really interesting.”

Kiera has also been honing her administration skills while helping at the William Quarriers  Scottish Epilepsy Centre.

A spokesperson for QA said: “We are delighted to host our 2nd annual QA Scotland Apprenticeship Awards Ceremony on Wednesday 13th March 2024. We will be celebrating our star apprentices and employers of 2023/24!”

The winners will be announced on March 13th, and if she wins, Kiera said it would give her more confidence in her abilities. “It would be great to win, though I think I already know much I have learned and improved over my time at Quarriers.”

Good luck, Kiera.
