Westview residential support

Quarriers Westview Service has been operating since 2001 and provides residential support to eight adults who have a learning disability and/or epilepsy. Westview is located in the quiet west end of Greenock with beautiful views over the Clyde estuary and beyond. Greenock town centre, the esplanade and leisure facilities are easily accessible on public transport. The service is made up of two buildings: Westview and The Coach House. Staff support is available 24 hours a day, including sleepover support, and staff are supported by a 24-hour on call management system. There are strong bonds between the residents and staff. Staff encourage residents to participate in activities, and regularly organise activities and outings for groups and individuals. The activity board displays photos and pictures to remind residents of upcoming and past events. Residents are encouraged to personalise their bedrooms and common areas of the house, with the staff using mood boards to inspire self-expression in their decorating.

At Westview, the health and happiness of all our residents is our priority. All residents are encouraged to have a voice in the smooth running of the service, and everyone is invited to attend and contribute to weekly residents’ meetings. We also pay close attention to compatibility to make sure that everyone feels safe and supported. We aim to help people live life to the full and to have the life that they want. As well as providing long-term care we can also support individuals to work on developing their life skills to ultimately enable them to make the transition to more independent living.

Westview is the main house, with four second floor bedrooms and one ground floor bedroom in the main house. All rooms are small doubles. The main house also has a communal living room, large kitchen and a smaller quiet lounge with panoramic views as well as three bathrooms. There is a wide staircase with a double rail, to access the second floor of the main house so a level of mobility is needed.

The Coach House is a small detached building with wheelchair access on the ground floor. The house has three ground floor bedrooms, all of which have en suite toilets and wash basins, and one has an en suite shower.  There is a lounge, kitchen, and a further shower room upstairs. The Coach House enjoys the same aspect and views as the main house.

Our staff

Our staff are all registered with the SSSC and supported to gain SVQ level 3 qualifications as well as having access to a range of training and development opportunities. Our staff are skilled professionals and have specialist training in supporting people who have learning disabilities and epilepsy. Residents are encouraged to be involved in staff recruitment.

Westview has excellent staff retention with some staff working with people we support for many years. Staff and people we support have good multi-disciplinary working relationships with occupational therapists and community nurses as well as supporting residents with personal care, including attending hairdressering and podiatry appointments.
