Aberdeenshire Adult Carer Support Service

Quarriers’ Aberdeenshire Adult Carer Support Service provides advice and support to adults over 18 in Aberdeenshire who provide unpaid care to a family member, friend or neighbour who depends upon them because of physical or mental illness, disability, frailty or substance use.

How we can help

We are here to help you identify and access the advice, information and support which best meets your needs, and which helps you continue in your caring role in a way that works.

Someone to talk to when it all feels too much
Being a carer can be stressful and feel isolating. If you feel things are getting on top of you, but you don’t know what would make a difference, we can help. Often, speaking to someone other than family or friends is all you need: we’re here to listen.

Put you in touch with other carers
We create different opportunities for carers to meet together in relaxed surroundings. Sharing experiences and knowledge, creating new friendships and enjoying some time away from your caring role helps you look after yourself as well as the person you care for.

Help you develop skills and confidence
We offer a wide range of free learning opportunities throughout Aberdeenshire. The programme is based on what carers tell us they need and is reviewed regularly to reflect this.

Provide information and advice
We have a wide range of information about local services, benefit entitlements and medical conditions, and we can connect you with specialist agencies when needed.

“I feel more able to cope because Quarriers staff allowed me to talk through my problems.”

“It never occurred to me that I was a carer and might be entitled to benefits. As a result of the support from Quarriers, my son now receives Disability Living Allowance and I get Carers’ Allowance.”

Adult Carers’ Support Plan

The Adult Carer Support Plan (ACSP) is one of the new tools under the Carers (Scotland) Act 2016 to work out a carer’s needs and personal outcomes. It looks at a carer’s responsibilities and how the caring role impacts on their health and wellbeing.

The Carer Support Service can help a carer complete an ACSP, identify where help may be needed, and then draw up a plan to support them.
