We work with pupils from Primary 6 to S1, helping them to deal with a range of issues including difficulties with behaviour, attendance, social skills, peer relationships, coping with loss and confidence issues.
The service is particularly focused on supporting pupils through the difficult transition from primary to secondary school. We deliver support in schools during term time and offer a series of transition support programmes during the summer holidays.
The service also provides individual support to pupils in secondary schools and works alongside families to address their child’s difficulties.
Referrals are normally made by pastoral care, teaching staff, school joint support teams and educational psychology staff. Opt-In gratefully acknowledges the support of our funders and Glasgow City Council’s Community Planning services. Other significant funding partners include Radio Clyde’s Cash for Kids, NHS Southwest, The William Mann Foundation, the Skipton Building Society and the Bellahouston Trust.
Opt-In Early Years works in pre-school services and primary schools in south west Glasgow to promote positive transitions to primary school, and works within primary schools to help children settle in and become engaged and capable learners. Through age-appropriate play, activities and discussion, we work with each child to identify their needs and support them to socialise, build relationships and understand their emotions. We also work with parents and carers to promote wellbeing and positive attitudes to learning in the home. Our support encourages children to develop self-esteem and build positive relationships with their peers, parents and other adults, thereby helping them to feel happier and more engaged at school.
