The snuggle inducing pile of pillows, duvets, duvet covers, fitted sheets, blankets and pillowcases – have been gratefully received by two of Quarriers services, the Dumfries and Galloway Youth Housing Support Service and Rivendell, which provides 24-hour residential support for children and young people living with complex needs.
Caitlin McGinley, Community Liaison Coordinator at John Lewis, Glasgow, said: “We are thrilled to support Quarriers through our Community Matters scheme. At the John Lewis Partnership, we believe in giving back to the communities we serve, and we know that Quarriers does incredible work supporting individuals facing challenging circumstances. We hope this contribution helps to make a real difference in providing comfort and care to those who need it most.”

Julia Cringean, Project Manager of D&G Youth Housing Support Service said: “Having all these fabulous pillows to distribute to the young people we support is such a treat. When a young person takes up a tenancy, they are delighted to have somewhere to call home. However, they have next to nothing. Everyone wants to feel cocooned and safe in their bed and these pillows and items of bedding add a new level of luxury and provide a level of comfort.
“Our role is to support young people (aged 16-25) who are care leavers, homeless or at risk of homeless, with whatever their needs are. Whether that is supporting them to learn to cook, or show them how to use a washing machine, how to budget and pay bills and how to do their weekly shop; we are there to encourage and to promote independence.
“We do our best to support them to make their house feel like a home, and we are delighted and so grateful to John Lewis for this kind donation.”
The other bedding items were donated to Quarriers Rivendell Residential Support Service. Joyce Sweeney, Rivendell Operational Manager added: “Rivendell is home to young people with complex needs and this gift of bedding gives us the opportunity to offer an extra level of comfort to the children and young people we support.”
The John Lewis Partnerships’ community altruism is renowned. Quarriers recently received £1000 through the John Lewis Partnership JLP Community Matters initiative, which is its charitable giving scheme. Every three months each shop branch selects three community groups or charities to support which align with their specific themes or focus for giving.
Quarriers’ services support adults and children with disabilities, young people facing homelessness, families facing poverty, unpaid carers and people affected by epilepsy.
