Keith carer takes on Try-Tri Challenge for Quarriers Carer Support Service in Moray

A Keith lady, Isabelle Barclay, is taking on an incredible challenge this May to raise vital funds for the Quarriers Carer Support Service in Moray. A charity that has been a lifeline for her and many other unpaid carers in the community.

Keith carer takes on Try-Tri Challenge for Quarriers Carer Support Service in Moray

Isabelle, who cares for her autistic son, had struggled for years without support. The responsibilities of her caring role eventually led to burnout, leaving her feeling isolated and overwhelmed. It was only after being recommended to reach out to Quarriers Carer Support Service (Moray), that she finally found the help she needed.

Now, Isabelle wants to give back. She is gearing up to participate in the Grantown on Spey Try-Tri event on May 18th, which includes a 300m swim, a 16km cycle, and a 4.8km run. Having completed the challenge before in 1 hour and 36 minutes some three years ago, this year she aims to beat her time while raising as much money as possible to support other unpaid carers in the local area.

“I’ve always been sporty, it helps me stay focused and this year, I’m aiming for a PB,” she said.

Since connecting with Quarriers, Isabelle has received invaluable support, including a tailored care support plan, guidance on financial benefits, and access to wellbeing programmes.

She has taken part in mindfulness sessions, yoga, massage, and even sound bath therapy in Fochabers – all of which have helped her manage stress and improve her mental health. She has also benefited from a peer support group, where she meets with other parents facing similar challenges.

“I am still off work due to work-related stress, but thanks to Quarriers, I feel a bit better. The support has been fantastic, and I want to make sure other unpaid carers can access the same help that I did,” said Isabelle.

“I know firsthand how tough it can be to keep going without support, and I encourage any unpaid carers in Moray to reach out to Quarriers. There is help available, you don’t have to struggle alone.”

Unpaid carers who are looking after their loved ones play a crucial role in our community, but too often, they suffer in silence. Isabelle hopes her efforts will not only raise funds but also raise awareness of the support that is available for those who need it.

If you would like to support Isabelle’s fundraising effort and help other unpaid carers access the wellbeing services they deserve, please consider making a donation. Every penny makes a difference in ensuring more carers receive the guidance and care they need.
