The Falkirk Wheel, the world’s only rotating boat lift and a globally recognised Scottish landmark, served as the perfect backdrop for a thrilling first-time charity abseil event, which Quarriers plans to make an annual fixture.
Although nerves were high at the top, Alan Roe, Alan Craig, Gerard Kelly, and David Colgan harnessed up, took a deep breath, and descended from the towering structure. Once their feet touched the ground, the team was all smiles, with many admitting the experience was far less terrifying than expected, but just as exhilarating.
Their fearless efforts raised an impressive £1,390 for Quarriers, one of Scotland’s leading health and social care charities, which offers over 100 services across the country. The funds will support the Renfrewshire Head Injury Service in Paisley, helping people with acquired brain injuries and their families navigate a life-changing condition.
Alan Craig, of CC Financial Management, based in Montrose Street in the city centre, said, “It was great fun, and it wasn’t as scary as we thought it would be. We’re delighted to have raised so much money. Thank you to all our clients, family, and friends who donated. And I have to add, Alan Roe did the abseil with three broken bones in his hand! He wants that mentioned,” he laughed.

The Quarriers Renfrewshire Head Injury Service has been a lifeline for more than 20 years, offering vital support until funding was withdrawn last year, a devastating blow for those who relied on it. This generous donation brings hope, as the service will resume in late April 2025 with a renewed focus on supporting people with an acquired brain injury. Quarriers is thrilled by the dedication of the CC Financial Management team and is grateful for all their support.
